About the artists

Xue Song:

Xue Song began his initial experiments with collage after being inspired by an encounter with works by Robert Rauschenberg. Still, he struggled to find his artistic voice, explaining, “I wanted to break Chinese tradition and surpass western modernism. It is easy to say, but very difficult to realize.” In a twist of fate, his Pop art-meets-classical style began to crystallize after a fire burned down his studio, leading Xue to incorporate charred remnants of past work, books, and other belongings. He became known for colorful collages referencing political and popular icons and Chinese and Western art history, with burnt debris serving as a constant reminder of the past. Additionally, he picked up painting and experimented with styles ranging from traditional landscapes to Pop art. Through his series “Conversations with the Masters,” he engaged with the likes of Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso, Qi Baishi, and Xu Beihong.

Wei Guangqing:

A painter, illustrator, and one-time performance artist, Wei Guangqing figured among the trailblazers of the Chinese contemporary art scene in the 1980s as a prominent member of the ’85 New Wave movement. His “Red Wall” series exemplifies the Political Pop art for which he is known. Appropriating illustrated editions of feudal-era morality tales, Wei replaces the text with an illustration of a red-brick wall, symbolizing a new social order and collective moral compass. “The works adopt a conceptual approach to record some remnants of heroic illusion amongst a fully materialized society,” he says, “and at the same time tell us that in this era of abundant hedonism and consumerism, people must retain an awe toward unknown objects.”

Update on EP Technology

EP Technology Corp., at 1401 Interstate Drive, C, continues to sell, distribute and provide technical support for Zmodo video security equipment.

In 2013, Zmodo produced about 700,000 cameras and 150,000 digital video recorders, said Helen Wu, EP's investor relations manager.

The company is also expanding into the "smart home" industry by introducing smart electronics, such as smart cameras and doorbells that connect to smart phones, she said.

"We have recently introduced the Zmodo EZCam, a smart-home camera designed specifically for residential applications that allows customers to access live video feed via their smart phones," Wu said.

"It comes with our free app, Zsight, which is available on App Store and Google Play," she said.

EP Technology is developing a wide range of smart-home products and providing home automation services such as cloud storage and live streaming, she added.

"The new platform, the MeShare cloud, is an open cloud platform, which allows third-party smart electronics to run on," Wu said. "The platform and website are expected to go live this fall."

EP Technology occupies 100 percent of its building on Interstate Drive. As of last week, it employed 60 in Champaign.

Company founder Kevin Wan has said he would like to bring manufacturing to the U.S. and possibly to Champaign.

Wu said there are no immediate plans for that, "but we are not ruling out that possibility in the future."

June 8, 2012, was a remarkable milestone for ZMODO. On this special day, Zmodo held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of its headquarters in Shenzhen, China.

Zmodo’s new headquarters will allow hundreds of staff to work in a comfortable and spacious office.The new headquarters represents not only a market expansion from USA and Canada to China, but also the management’s extensive insight into a brilliant future within the industry.Government representatives, well-known enterprises and partners from all over the globe attended this historic and exciting event.

The warm and solemn ceremony began with congratulatory speeches from Dr. Kevin Wan, CEO of Zmodo and left memories of red wine, delicious dishes, the sounds of toasts and laughter.

A huge breakthrough in worldwide exposure for ZMODO came at the IFSEC International 2012 Expo, held at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, UK.  The Zmodo booth displayed our latest innovative security solutions, including a PTZ camera, 16 channel DVR kit and other best-selling items.  Also available was a 4 channel Zmodo DVR demo unit used to display product performance and reliability.

Although a mature brand in USA and Canada, Zmodo is still new to other corners of the world.  However, at this show we met various prospects who are interested in our products. Among them were security installers, resellers, distributors, IT integrators, end-users and consultants.  Customers came from all over the world including, Africa, China, Iran, India and the Middle East.

The days of laying wiring for surveillance systems is a thing of the past with Zmodo’s revolutionized wireless network.

Previously, when installing a DVR, one needed to prepare wiring for video input, audio input, video output, audio output, sensor/alarm input and output, not to mention numerous other accessories. If supplied with an 80ft cable, then the system was limited to monitor an area within 80ft.  If 200ft cables were supplied, then the system could only monitor within a 200ft area. Often, an installer needed to dig ditches to hide these cables, making installations very labor-intensive. Due to the analog signal of traditional DVRs, some obstructions block the signal, and a user has no other option but to accept interference.

Now with our new revolutionary products, ZMD-NH-SAN4 NVR and ZMD-ISV-BFS26NM IP Camera, there is no need for video input, audio input, video output, audio output, or sensor alarm input/output cables!

Anywhere you can access the network, through 3G, Wi-FI 802.11 b/g, PPPOE, IP/TCP/UDP, DNSDNS/ SMTP, etc., you can access the IP camera. With the cooperation of ZMD-NH-SAN4 network digital recorder, the IP camera delivers digital video directly to the NVR without obstruction from the surrounding environment. While we continue to focus on expanding traditional distribution channels, buyers from Canada, France, New Zealand, Australia, and many Latin American countries also expressed interest in our brand.
