Zmodo’s founder and CEO, Dr. Kevin Kelin Wan, obtained his Ph.D in Physics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and continued research work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as a postdoctoral fellow. Dr. Wan was inspired by Bill Gates and Steve Jobs; he wanted to utilize his technology background and entrepreneurial spirit and bring cutting-edge research to the consumer market. Thus, Dr. Wan founded EP Technology Corporation in 1997. In its early days, EP Technology focused on image processing, hardware and software development, as well as data management applications.

Dr. Wan turned his focus to developing video surveillance equipment after his store was broken into during Christmas of 2008. The burglars, members of a local gang, entered the store through a 20-inch hole cut in the roof, just like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible. Locked safes were broken into, and display cabinets were emptied of their memory sticks and hard drives. The thieves damaged all the surveillance cameras and recorders in the store, but incidentally, the home digital multimedia system under development recorded the scene.

As the ancient Taoist saying goes, "Misfortune is the basis of fortune." In order to prevent homes and businesses from similar damages, Dr. Wan decided to devote his research to the video surveillance industry and established Zmodo Technology Corporation, headquartered in Shenzhen, China. Zmodo quickly became one of the top three brands in the home surveillance market in North America.

The Zmodo product line has expanded tremendously since then, developing everything from analog cameras and DVRs to network digital cameras, network video recorders, cloud services, intelligent management, and analytical software. Combined with the Internet of Things and Cloud Computing, it is developing more
intelligent products and solutions for intelligent management, home automation, and Safe City projects.

Currently, Zmodo products are sold around the world, online, and in retail stores and distribution channels. It continues to provide top-notch consumer service via the Illinois-based service center.
With an open culture and a young, energetic team, it has great potential to continue thriving.
